Promises

Promises

We’re surrounded by promises almost every day. They can be rather small: “I promise to call you later.” Or they can be big: “I promise that I’ll always be there for you.” I’m certain that you know what I mean…

But I’d say that 80-90% of those promises aren’t kept. But why is that? I don’t think that it happens always deliberately, I suppose that most people simply forget what they promised or what I deem even worse: A promise doesn’t have the same value anymore as it once had.

Maybe I’m structured too simply concerning promises, I don’t know, but I expect people to keep their promise. And on the other hand I only really promise things that are possible. But if I can’t keep a promise due to unforeseen circumstances, I feel guilty and sad. I guess most other people don’t. Is “my way” wrong? It certainly isn’t the easiest one…

So why don’t people think properly before they promise anything and why don’t they try everything, why do they renege on their promise…?

What remains on the other end is just one thing: disappointment.
